Why Fashion needs the PAQ Streetwear Show

Written by Greg Harris

The cultural shift from the golden years of streetwear with the likes of The Hundreds, Diamond Supply, HUF, and Stussy were the vanguards of the scene to seeing high fashion menswear take over the fashion demographic goes to show how it defined our style palette today. The unique aspect of streetwear is the fact you can construct, build, and orchestrate an outfit with cheaper materials and become more versatile in the way you dress for a greater value as far as price goes. A group of individuals named Dex, Elias, Shaw, and Danny from the UK have gone beyond the boundaries to prove why streetwear is still so much of a vital aspect of how men dress in today’s time.

This episode... PAQ attempt to answer the question on every young man's lips at some stage or another - how do you dress to impress for that crucial first date? Featuring fancy bits from Sandro, Axel Arigato and Givenchy. Oh, and any hypebeast's dream bling: a solid gold, diamond-encrusted Supreme box logo chain.

Getting introduced to their show through an Instagram ad I kept coming across; it was only right I gave their show, “PAQ”. When tuning into what they had to offer to the forefront, it was refreshing seeing the crew go after unique style competitions to prove the point that streetwear is not a thing of wearing different brands but it’s the creativity you put into your outfit. For example, you see this in their episode where they target delivery men from UPS, DHL, and more, buy their working gear, and transform it into their own flavor for their outfit. The other competitions also range from creating custom sneakers, strategizing the best outfit for a date that all 4 of the members have to do with the same girl to buying fresh threads on a budget. The show’s concepts go beyond what your average fashion site will give with their subpar reviews on the latest Raf Simons or Vetements drop.

Living in such a bourgeois fashion society where the next man or woman has to check the price tag to solidify the radness of someone’s outfit is absurd, to say the least. Seeing material such as this, it makes it fun to shop, it makes it fun to do ridiculous things with clothes, it makes it fun to surpass the limits. Mostly, it just makes a fun thing to do with your friends and having the ability to share this type of fun with the rest of the world is not only enlightening but it’s powerful.

This episode... PAQ try their hand at trainer/sneaker customisation. Each working with some of the UK's most exciting customisers, the boys take staple silhouettes such as the Adidas Stan Smith, Nike Air Force 1, Converse Chuck Taylors and Vans Slip Ons and transform them into a masterpiece.

Vetements, Off-White and Skepta have all been seen f**king with Uniforms. In this episode, we're gonna see how hard it is to get hold of, then how to make it work (featuring a special guest judge). Can you grab a Deliveroo jacket off a rider in the street? Does DHL fit?

This episode... PAQ is going ham on the rarest mythical streetwear fits. Hunting for that 90s supreme, original Stone Island, that vintage Raf, that unreleased Pastelle jacket from Kanye... It's a big one and it all gets a bit emotional at points.
