Queens has found a star in YTB's own Shawny Binlanden and here's why you should listen to the emerging NYC Star
Written by Greg Harris
For those who’ve been tapping into the New York City for the past year or so, from a mainstream level it’s a lot of talent that’s emerging and making the city pop in a different fashion than the ones who’ve came before them. If you’ve really been paying attention, a lot of the heat has been coming from Uptown/Harlem/Manhanttan with the likes of Dave East, A Boogie, Don Q, Cardi B, and many others and the other half has made noise with a younger crowd with the likes of Jay Critch, Pop Smoke, ABG Neal, 22gz, Krimelife Ca$$, and more as well. The mixture has given NYC a new resurgence but recently Queens has bullied their way into the conversation with the wavy sounds of the electrifying collective, YTB and their affiliates.
For those who are in the know, YTB and some of their affiliates were kicking it with Lil Uzi Vert in the heavily beloved “Free Uzi” visual, and this influence in sound and scenery has carried over into the music prior to the video even being a talking piece. One of the shining members of the collective is Shawny Binlanden, the smooth yet sinister lyricist who will deliver a project of nothing but wavy heavyhitters. You can see this in his body of work he displayed in his mixtape, “Drippy Christ”.
The 16 track project delivers a consistent sense of waviness that plays a core not only in the YTB collective but also has played in the new formation of the Queens sound. Seeing BinLanden cater to this in an effective and fast fashion goes to show you he can craft hits in different manners and still remain himself in the midst of this.
This skill set has been making it’s way around the town and caught the attention of Roc Nation.. Seeing Shawny make waves in the city and in other areas, it’s safe to say that Binlanden is here to say in more fashions than one. We recommend that you guys get in tune with his material and stay updated on what the emerging Queens artist has under his sleeve.
