Hurrxcane drops an impressive new project with "5 Star"
Written by Patrick Garland
Starting off the Summer to a good note, Houston-based artist HURRXCANE delivers his highly-anticipated project “5 STAR”. HURRXCANE, part of the Blade collective responsible for a lot of the events thrown by the underground scene, has had quite a build up to 5 STAR, having dropped a plethora of hits in the underground Houston scene aiding in his build-up to the project.
In late 2019 HURRXCANE delivered his EP, featuring single “Intro (WLETM)”, which set him on a good trajectory for 2020, and after recently dropping a remix to Mike Jones infamous “Still Tippin” this spilled the pot over in terms of his support in the Houston scene, and his trajectory to find success as an artist within it. Taking a look at HURRXCANE’s discography, it’s obvious that he’s taken a modern spin on his style in comparison to old-style Houston chopped and screwed music.
The project has 9 songs, with popular Houston-artist DOODIE being one of only two features on it. Starting from track one, “Hellpit”, the production reminds me of a mix between a variation of Houston screw with a combination of intergalactic melodies, featuring HURRXCANE rapping in a style that shows his skill in letting off quick-witted lyricisms. I was also excited to see that “Blank” is on the project as well, as HURRXCANE had been promoting it on his Instagram a couple of months back; the beat on the track is very sonorous, with a noise sounding like a single guitar string strummed repeatedly being the main part of it and maracas to come and tie a everything together. Overall, I feel that the project is a good introduction to who Hurrxcane is an artist, and I am excited to see what he has to offer in the future.
