YL blends real rap over NYC drill sample beats on "Soda Club"
Written by Greg Harris
Scaling the depths of New York Music, it's not necessarily the same meaning that it used to carry years ago. With the recent emergence of the NYC drill holding the city by a chokehold right now, it's shining a new light on what the city can bring to the table. As the new sounds of the city are making their way to the mainstream airwaves, there are some people such as YL, who are blending the spirit of rap purists but redefining it in today's standards. He displays that in a new body of work called "Soda Club".
Much the like cover art, its paying a homage to the golden era of the Pelle Pelle and also bringing back a flavor of rap that has been missing in the NYC scene. From the surface view, it's easy to say that this is another drill project but YL uncovers more than that with his witty rhymes and ability to keep up with today's rhyme scheme. From covering samples such as "Ms. Jones" to scorching duet records with the likes of Papa2004, Thelonious Lincoln, and Starker, YL has a created a new fan favorite that'll be certainly played over the holiday season. We advise you to plug up your Bluetooth and play this project with the quickness to indulge to fresh rhymes and reminiscent beats.
