The Calm Before The Storm: Why Austin’s Wiardon is One of Hip-Hop’s Best Kept Secrets
Written by Greg Harris
Carving out the Texas music scene, it’s a lot of areas that are doing their thing and its getting noted on a national scale. From different national outlets catching on to what’s happening and some social media pages getting hip to the sounds of tomorrow, it’s some pretty good prospects that are sprouting out of the Lone Star state. In the midst of the action that may be going mainstream from the Southwestern territory, it’s some X-Factors in the mix that are making their own way as well.
One of the strongest but fairly on the rise acts that’s gaining steam is Austin’s own Wiardon. The producer turned artist has been making listeners do double takes with his impressive resume and nostalgic sound he presents in his catalog. At such a young age, Wiardon has already crafted hits for the likes of Lucki, Baby Smoove, $ha Hey, Mavi, and more. The distinctive class of artists he chooses to work with goes to show his range when it comes to his sound. The ability to display an retro-esque Northeastern sound to dropping off modern West Coast rhythms, Wiardon is delivering a new perspective to the game with his versatility.
These skills are transferred in his own music as well, although he takes more a calm-mannered/slick ridden NYC influenced approach that doesn’t stop him from mixing the pot with different instrumentals to work on. The most impressive efforts of his storytelling can be heard on his projects, “Probably Somewhere Ducked Off” and “Loose Endz”. These bodies of work go into detail about a young man who’s lived a life beyond on his years and how he maneuvers through the ups and downs of it.
As clever and witty as Wiardon is, it’s still so much more to look forward to. The emerging Texas artist + producer is on the path of becoming one of the greats in his own right. He won’t have to wait become a household name, he’s already working at a fast pace towards that.
