ChloexHalle define their own rules on their new album, "The Ungodly Hour"

Although these past few months have been quite restricting between COVID and Quarantine, we were left wondering of the impact it’ll have on entertainment. Album rollouts such as appearances, concerts and tours are now historic ventures, but hopefully it won’t be long, especially with the release of Ungodly Hour.
ChloexHalle have created an elevated sound with their spicy sophomore album, giving drop-dead gorgeous looks with celestial vocals all on prolific stage sets designed from their tennis court. The Kids Are Alright dignified their musical knowledge, but Ungodly Hour dignifies how they’ve grown.
Contrary to their previous album, the sister duo has made it known they’re not little Disney girls anymore but grown Destiny Child-ren, see what I did there? The cover of Ungodly Hour makes a statement within itself with ChloexHalle having their backs turned wearing leather black dresses and chrome angel wings.
“The girls find balance within the growth of their sound while aiming for lyrical maturity in the 13 track masterpiece.” - Danielle Wright
The album opens up with spooky yet etherial vocals with Chloe advising, “Don’t ask for permission, ask for forgiveness.” From there, it seamlessly transitions to the standout single, “Forgive Me” where someone must have had Chloe fucked up. The first half of the album holds more excitability with songs “Do It”, “Tipsy” and “Busy Boy” while the last portion holds more feel with songs “Overwhelmed” “Lonely” and “Wonder What She Thinks Of Me.” One of my personal top two tracks that I’ve fallen addicted to is “Ungodly Hour” because of its early 00’s movie soundtrack feel, and the other “Don’t Make It Harder On Me” because of the shower rehearsal realness. The girls find balance within the growth of their sound while aiming for lyrical maturity in the 13 track masterpiece.
We can’t possibly discuss this era without acknowledgment to creative direction. While in quarantine, ChloexHalle have used their “Twitter Raved” tennis court to create captivating stage sets and alluring photoshoots. The BET Awards, MTV and Youtube 2020 Commencement specials, Teen Vogue photoshoot and more were innovatively performed and shot in the comfort of their own backyard. Each performance displaying their somber side with the use of darkened hue sets and flashing lights, while their photoshoots highlight their gleaming side in daytime looks.
The fits chosen for this enrapture era are ones one needs for a mood board. They stunted in TLZ L’Femme for the BET Awards and gave Spongebob and Patrick a run for their Bikini Bottom dollars wearing yellow and pink bodysuits for The Today Show. My favorite look so far is the collage homage to Black entertainment designed by Black designer Delia Alleyne, for their “ROYL” performance for Global Goal: Unite for the Future. The sisters tap into their rockstar bag as you see Biggie, Wu Tang Klan and Obama printed on their looks, only signifying one thing-they’re legends in the making.
Ungodly Hour serves as ChloexHalle’s surpassed creativity. Even in the midst of a pandemic and heightened racial dispute, nothing can stop their artistry from bursting through as they’ve made their mark on their music and place in longevity.
